MYSTERIOUS AL.

AMY

From Mysterious Al’s ‘Doomsday Papers’ exhibition @ Stolen Space.

  • On the run up to his first solo show - London based artist and illustrator Mysterious Al approached us once again for help in the production of some screen printed pieces for his show: 'Doomsday Papers' @ Stolen Space.

We printed a number of hand-painted / mixed media boards as part of his 'Monsters' series (one of which was this iconic image of Amy Winehouse) and as a spin-off from this we created an edition of more affordable / collectable prints on paper. These were to be offered to people attending the private view.

  • Artist: Mysterious Al

    Title: 'Amy'

Edit: /25 (5 each from 5 different colour ways)

Spec: 1 colour hand pulled screen print

Stock: on Stockwell  - 300gsm cartridge (trimmed edge)

    Size: A1 size - (840 x 595 cm)

Features: each print has a hand finished spray painted background making each unique.

  • Each of the prints was hand finished with spray paint by the artist prior to us applying the final layer of black to the image.

This black had to be opaque enough to cover the laid down paint and scuff-proof.

The size and frequency of dot used in the halftone that we created allowed for easy printing at that scale without loss of any detail.

The Amy prints were created as part of the artist’s ‘Doomsday Papers’ show @ Stolen Space - as well as the 25 paper print edition - 3 were printed onto mixed-media boards that hung as part of his ‘Monsters’ collection. We’ve documented the ‘Monsters’ collaboration in our ‘Projects’ section - go here to read more.

R.I.P.

When Amy Winehouse tragically passed away, the artist who was a big fan of Amy’s laid one of the painted mixed media boards outside her London home as a sign of respect.

This was very quickly to become the centrepiece of a huge shrine that formed as people came to show respect and lay gifts/cards/flowers and heartfelt messages.

The images of fans gathering around the piece were broadcast by news agencies across the world and it quickly became an iconic motif of the world’s shared grief.
